Garrit’s dedication to the field and commitment to promoting safety accessibility for workers in Alberta truly stood out, making him a deserving winner of this prestigious scholarship.
Meet Garrit Holmes:
Garrit Holmes is embarking on his second year of studies at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), where he is pursuing a diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. His journey in the field of OHS began with a strong desire to engage directly with workers, advocating for their safety, and fostering a culture of collaboration in the workplace. Beyond his academic pursuits, Garrit aspires to develop skills that extend beyond the workplace, allowing him to excel in coordinating HSE programs for building projects and acting as a general safety educator.
Garrit believes in the power of lifelong learning and views education as a continuous journey towards excellence. He is enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead of him and is committed to making a meaningful impact in the realm of Occupational Health and Safety.

Now in its fourth year, the Carol Ross Scholarship Program continues to support exceptional students like Garrit who are passionate about pursuing a career in Occupational Health and Safety through post-secondary studies. This scholarship provides the winner with $3,000 CDN to aid in their educational journey in the field of OHS.
